Human-Powered Submarines
“Dear John,
I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to update you on the status of the FAU Human Powered Submarine team and your impact in assisting us with our propellor design in 2022. The props were reused for a new submarine based on the hull form of the USS Albacore, named the 'Owlbacore'. We are thrilled to share the highlights and results from the recently concluded 2024 European International Submarine Races (eISR). Thanks to your previous support, we had an incredibly successful and rewarding experience!
Race Recap:
Runners-Up at the 2024 eISR: We are proud to announce that we finished as runners-up in the overall competition!
Scoring and Performance: Points for the competition were awarded based on the design report, dry and wet inspections and qualifications, and performance over the four main days of racing. Each day’s best run was counted for points, with scores based on the fastest runs with the fewest faults. Faults were accrued through mistakes such as breaching the surface, contacting the bottom, or missing gates or slalom poles.
Awards: We earned awards for reliability, thanks to our dependable team of divers and a reliable submarine with the fewest aborted runs, as well as for communication, recognizing our social outreach and presentation skills.
Speed Achievement: We recorded the second-fastest top speed at the race, reaching an impressive 4.53 knots.
Agility and Endurance: Additionally, we secured second place in the agility and endurance competition, where the submarine successfully completed two laps of the race course.

Looking Forward:
Due to our success at eISR, we are excited to announce that we have been invited to participate in the Gran Canaria Invitational 2024. This event will feature open-ocean, head-to-head human-powered submarine racing in Arinaga, Gran Canaria, Spain, from September 16 - 22, 2024.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to you for helping to make this journey possible. Your support has been instrumental in our success, and we look forward to achieving even greater milestones in the future. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to hear more about the race.
Best regards,
Twain Glas
